McCann Family Crest |
The McCann Family Crest portrays a fess or military belt. This girdle of honor represents readiness to serve the public. Displayed upon the fess is a boar, representing a fierce warrior who is prepared to fight to the death. In Ireland the boar is one of the most popular charges. The meat of the boar was considered to be food of the Celtic Gods. The symbol of the boar was worn in battle as a charm against injury. Affixed atop the crest, a fish. This is a symbol of regal origin or one of high nature. In Ireland the fish is associated with the legend of Fionn who became the first to taste the “salmon of knowledge.” The Celtic “Otherworld” was often a place of water, a lake or sea, where would dwell Gods represented by fish. The colors displayed on the McCann Family Crest also hold significance. Gold represents generosity while blue symbolizes strength and loyalty. The red found in the boar represents a warrior and military strength.
